On seven sides of the ped- estal — one for each branch of the U.S. uniformed services — will be plaques with the names of Warrenton-area veterans. Warren said the post has raised about $28,000 sell- ing named bricks that will be placed in a wall around the statue. The fundraising acted as a match on a $72,000 grant from the state Parks and Recre- ation Department. Debbie Lit- tle, who wrote the application for the grant, said this will be the first such monument since Astoria’s Doughboy, dedicated in 1926 to honor World War I veterans.
