For information, email offi ce@asto- riamusicfestival.org Cannery Women monument to be dedicated Sunday The Cannery Women of Astoria Monument is being dedi- cated at 1 p.m. Sunday in Cannery Women’s Park, which is 50 feet north of the Pier 39 intersection with the Riverwalk. Any person who is associated with Bumble Bee Seafoods, or who is supportive of women’s labor rights, is encouraged to attend. Created by Astoria Granite Works, this monument honors the women of the fi sheries industry who provided the labor that sustained the Astoria economy for decades. The Hanthorn Cannery Foundation’s display is to acknowledge this achieve- ment, for without their labor, the fi shing industry would not have been possible. Tonight is a ‘Chinese in Astoria’ presentation at Astoria Library Astoria Public Library presents “Contours of Race: The Chinese in Astoria,” at 6 tonight at the Astoria Library, 450 10th St. The presentation, by Regan Watjus about 19th-cen- tury race relations between the Chinese and white residents of Astoria, is based on her research, for which she was awarded an Oregon Heritage Fellowship. Watjus earned her master’s degree in history and a gradu- ate certifi cate in museum studies from the University of Ore- gon, and a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Oklahoma.
