There is no admission charge, but donations are greatly appreciated. Martin was born in England, raised in Canada, and is a 40-year resident of the U.S., now living in Skamokawa. She is a writer, fisher and recently retired Episcopal priest who has written numer- ous books and is the recipient of several awards. This lecture is part of the Finland 100 events taking place in 2017 to celebrate Finland’s 100th anniversary of independence. Special needs dance is tonight in Warrenton WARRENTON — Dance Now, a free dance for those with special needs of all ages through- out Clatsop County, is being held from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight in the Warrenton Grade School gym, 320 S.W. Cedar Ave. Caregivers mus be present, as supervision is not available. This event is sponsored by the Clatsop County Dance Now Committee, with assistance from the Warrenton-Hammond School District. Auditions for medieval drama set for Saturday Actors and actresses of all ages are invited to audition for pantomime roles or backstage assis- tance for “The Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John,” a medieval-style drama, at 10 a.m. Saturday in Room 109 in the Perform- ing Arts Center, 588 16th St. Enter through the stage door on Franklin and follow the arrows to the audition area. Previous theatrical experience is preferred, but not required. The play is being performed from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. on Good Friday, April 14, at the PAC. For information, call 503 861-8567. Redmen Hall holds photography exhibit SKAMOKAWA, Wash. — Friends of Skamokawa at Redmen Hall are opening a pho- tography exhibit, “Moments of Reflection,” at 1 p.m. Saturday at the hall, 1394 State Route 4. Three photographers are featured, Megan Black- burn, Laurie Michaels and Teddy Townsend. The artists will be on hand to discuss their work open- ing weekend, when refreshments will be served. Redmen Hall is open from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, and the exhibit runs through May 5. For information, call 360-795-3007. Scrapbookers take on ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ The third annual Let’s Stamp out Hunger, an all-day crop for scrapbookers, card makers, and other paper crafters ages 15 and up, takes place from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Asto- ria High School Commons to help fill the shelves of the Clatsop Emergency Food Bank. The food bank can buy almost five times as much with a dollar than the average consumer, so cash is a bigger help, but donations of both cash and food are being accepted throughout the event. P LACE Y OUR For an admission fee of $10 or eight cans of food, participants receive entry to the event, space to work on their own projects, hourly make-and-takes and the chance to win door prizes that are being drawn every hour. Local businesses, as well as some well-known stamp and paper companies like Graphic 45, Art Impressions, and House Mouse have donated enough prizes to offer four or five prizes every hour; there are four raffle prizes worth between $70 and $250. Raffle tickets are $5 each or three for $10. Participants who bring more than the required entry fee get additional door prize tick- ets for more chances to win. Illustrated travel- ogues of Norway, Iceland, Mexico, Cuba, Indo- nesia, Khartoum (Sudan) and Argentina are also offered, as are classes on the fauna of the Pacific Coast, critical Reasoning and a critical examina- tion of the New Testament as a historical text, and a session on “Retirement: A Time to Be TIDY.” For information, or to register for a class, go to www.encorelearn.org. Coast Color Dash offers early signups GEARHART — The Gearhart Elementary School, Seaside Heights Elementary School and Broadway Middle School Parent Teacher Orga- nizations are hosting a Coast Color Dash fund- raiser April 30 at the Gearhart Public Courts, 197 N. Marion Ave. Registration starts at 9 a.m., and the run begins at 10 a.m. Participants are encour- aged to stay after the run to enjoy music, food and friends. During this fun, healthy event, participants can walk, run, skip or cartwheel through a course and get blasted by color dust. The color dust is safe, nontoxic and washable, and is made of starch and color dyes. The registration fee is $30; register, or donate, at http://shop.schoolathon. org/184437. Those who register by Wednesday will receive a T-shirt and a color dye pack. The funds raised will be used toward the arts, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) programs, assemblies and field trips. The goal is to raise $20,000.
