72 Englund Marine Supply Co. was founded by Axel R. Englund in July 1944 as a retail and wholesale marine supply store. On July 22 of this year, Englund Marine will have served the general public, the fishing industry and industrial-related industries for 72 years. Englund Marine, which started as a small marine store on the waterfront at the foot of 15th St. in Astoria, has grown to a chain of seven stores with an experiened crew of 83. Additional stores: Ilwaco, Wash., opened 1966; Westport, Wash., opened 1975; Charleston, OR, opened 1979; Crescent City, Calif., opened 1981; Newport, OR opened 1988; and Eureka, Calif opened 1995. In 2001, Englund Marine expanded its product line by purchasing longtime, local Fisher Brothers Industrial Supply.
