North Coast Food Web Lauren Sheehan brings folk music to Cannon Beach History Center & Museum to host food film festival Enjoy winter blues concert in Cannon Beach CANNON BEACH — The Can- non Beach History Center & Museum welcomes multi-tal- ented blues and folk musician Lauren Sheehan for a concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26. A charismatic songster, Sheehan plays guitar, mando- lin and banjo while singing, in- terpreting songs learned from some of America’s greatest folk and blues artists. Sheehan launched her recording and performing career in 2002 and has been sailing on to critical acclaim, national and inter- national radio charts, and en- cores at festivals, concerts and venues across the country and in Canada ever since. From fronting a nine-piece band to solo acoustic work, this viva- cious musician delights audi- ences with the breadth of her material, evocative artistry and musicianship. According to Reed Mag- azine, “Lauren has the au- thenticity, the sound and the knowledge of the folk/blues genre that other acts can only aspire to.” Sheehan gives memorable performances, from boozy Memphis blues and old-time banjo tunes, to country songs and electric modern folk. She studied classical guitar as a child and became infected by the spirit of the ¿ddle. Her gifted guitar work, sty- listic breadth and vocals are inspired by her study with el- ders, oral tradition and schol- arship. With tradition behind her, she recreates the intimacy of a back porch, where sing- ing and playing were regular events. She brings a passion and knowledge to each perfor- mance that adds a feeling of authenticity. “The ¿rst thing that strikes me is the beauty and clarity of Lauren’s voice,” says Phil Wiggins, of acoustic blues duo Cephas and Wiggins. “It’s like discovering some new instru- ment that combines qualities of ¿ddle and clarinet, fresh but with deep roots, accompanied by some pretty impressive guitar work. Lauren’s music is rich with ingredients that nourish the human spirit.” Her 2011 release “Rose City Ramble” reached the top 10 on the folk radio charts. In 2015, Sheehan released two new albums: “Lauren Shee- han: Songster Roots of Amer- icana” and another album that she did with her daugh- ter called “Tillamook Burn,” which reached number six on folk radio. She has performed all over the United States and appeared on the nationally syndicat- ed radio show “River City Folk.” She is also a regular at the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival. Seating is limited for this performance. Tickets are $12 for adults and $2 for children. Complimentary snacks and wine will be available.
