9A THE DAILY ASTORIAN • FRIDAY, AUGUST 21, 2015 Blaze incinerates house in Astoria The Daily Astorian An Astoria house was completely destroyed by a fire Thursday morning. Astoria Fire Department and the Astoria Police De- partment responded just before 10 a.m. to the house directly behind the Golden Luck restaurant fully en- gulfed in smoke and flames. “There was some pretty heavy smoke showing,” As- toria Fire Chief Ted Ames said. “It didn’t take long for that smoke to turn into flames.” Seaside Fire Depart- ment’s ladder truck was called in, along with a crew from the Lewis and Clark Volunteer Fire Department. At about 11 a.m., some flames were still coming out of the roof, but the house was pretty well doused in water. Between the water, smoke and fire damage, Ames sees the house as a total loss. “We can’t even get inside the thing. Looking at this from my viewpoint, I don’t think it’s salvageable,” he said. Two people, who are friends with the homeowner, were inside the house at the time of the fire. Both were able to get out in time and were not injured. All the water being sprayed on the fire started flooding the basement of the Golden Luck restaurant. Crews were able to get the flooding under control by Thursday afternoon. Other damage occurred to a neighbor’s house, when the ladder truck scraped part of the roofing. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
