SPORTS THE DAILY ASTORIAN • FRIDAY, MAY 22, 2015 11A Loggers take the lead in All-League The Daily Astorian Not surprisingly, the teams that dominated Northwest League baseball and softball also dominated the all-league selections, announced at the league playoffs earlier this week. Both teams combined to go 33-0 in league play this season, and both are among the favor- ites to win state titles in the coming weeks. The two teams also swept the NWL’s Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year and Coach of the Year awards. In softball, league champi- on Knappa had eight all-league selections (over half the Logger roster). Senior Kacie Cameron was Pitcher of the Year and Player of the Year, while James Nich- ols was selected as Coach of the Year. -RLQLQJ&DPHURQRQWKH¿UVW team were seniors Stacey Aho and Alyson Olheiser (the only RXW¿HOGHU RQ WKH ¿UVW WHDP freshman shortstop McKailyn Rogers and freshman catcher Kaitlyn Truax. Earning honorable mention were sophomore Alisha Mur- phy and freshmen Jaden Mi- ethe and Paris Vanderburg. The Northwest All-League baseball team had 43 selections, with Knappa baseball leading the way with 10 players. Only four players on the Knappa ros- ter did not make all-league. Senior Andrew Miller was named the Player of the Year (unanimous), senior Chase Rusinovich was Pitcher of the Year (unanimous) and Jeff Daily Astorian File League Player of the Year Andrew Miller and the Loggers are heading for their first state title since 2010. Knappa posted a 4-0 win over Waldport Thursday at home. The Loggers have a game today at Gaston. League Player of the Year Kacie Cameron pitched all seven innings, allowing just one hit with 14 strikeouts. Offensively, the Loggers scored one run in the third and three in the sixth. Alisha Murphy was 4-for- 4 and Alyson Olheiser was 2-for-3 with a double. The Loggers had 11 hits. Knappa enters the state playoffs with the most wins of any team at the 2A lev- el (22), and a 21-game win streak. Oregon Historical Society to exhibit Heisman Trophy SCOREBOARD PREP SCHEDULE Baseball Astoria 5, Clatskanie 2 The Astoria Fishermen are back in the 20-wins club, as they topped Clatskanie 5-2 Thursday afternoon in a non- league baseball game at Aiken Field. Astoria improves to 20-5 hits over six innings, took the loss for the Tigers. Kai Brown and Fridtjof Fremstad both saw action on the mound for Astoria, allow- ing six hits with nine strike- outs and three walks. PORTLAND — The 2014 Heisman Trophy will be on dis- play at the Oregon Historical So- ciety , 1200 S.W. Park Ave. , from June 5 to 7.
