The disability community accounts for 12 percent of the population in the United States and almost 14 percent of Ore- gon’s population. The disabil- LW\ FRPPXQLW\ LQÀXHQFHV DOO Oregonians, whether they are individuals or family members with a disability, or are friends and allies of someone with a disability; this is the focus of “Understanding Disability.” Participants in this con- versation will look at what they know of the stories of their own family, friends and colleagues, and consider the sources of their perspectives. Whether these stories contain themes of pride, oppression, resistance, failure or success, they offer individuals an op- portunity to rethink their per- ceptions.
