F..Bush ORfGOiJMl AliES OWN LIFE ATCOLTON HOME Harvey Lewis Ball, a well know resi dent of Clackamas county, who haa for the past twelve years made his ome with hla broth-rs, ft. D. Ball and C. Hall, of Col ton, committed sui cide Wednesday morning at 10:30 by fchootlng titmself, In the head. The cause ot the deed wu ill health. Mr. Ball having suffered for the past twelve years. Mr. Ball arose Wednesday morning t the usual hour, and while sitting on the back porch ot tbo home, exclaimed to tils brother, Calvin, who was en guged In hoeing near the bouse, that he was 111. After partaking of a drink of water from the veil he went back to the porch, and the brother engaged In gardening paid no further attention to the brother, until be beard the re port of a gun. Kui-hing to the porch i found hla brother dead. In committing the deed, Ball tied a trlng to a chair and sitting In an other chair, had tied the other end of the string to the trigger of the gun. nd when Jerking backward caused the gun to explode. From indications e had carefully carried out his plans at self destruction. Coroner E. J. Johnson, of this city, was called, but only an Inquiry was made, as the facts showed it was a case of suicide. 1L N. Ererhart, of Molalla, took charge ot the body, and the funeral services are to b9 held Thursday afternoon at Carus, with in terment In the Carua cemetery. Mr. Ball was 68 years ot age, and had resided in Oregon since a child. For many years fce maJe his home at Canby, and fifteen years ago moved to three miles from Colton, where he has since resided with his unmarried broth era. He, la also survived by another brother, George r. Ball, two sisters, Mrs. Frank Bonney and Mrs. Julia Pendleton. His mother dijd two years ago, and his father many years ago. Charman, who has been yla itlng In his home town, Oregon City, and In Portland, where he has been tha guost of relatives, will leave to day for New York. Mr. Charman may decide to remain In New York for the present and later go to Ban Francisco. Mr. Charman was born and reared In Oregon City, and his had much ex perienced with steamship companies, having been sosnected for a number of years with the Pacific Steamship company and recently resigned as their agent at Shanghai, arriving from China two weeks ago. Shortly before bis departure from the Orient Mr. Charman was presented with a hand some gold watch from the directors of the China Merchant Steam, Naviga tion company, as an appreciation of his work during his two years' jservlee as agent at Shanghai. While en route east Mr. Charman will stop at Seattle, Wash., Vancouver, B. C, and Toronto, Canada, where he will visit with hla friends. For some time he made hla head quarters at Seattle, before going to hlna, having been connected wttn Seattle-Alaska boats tor a number of years. RITGELL FUNERAL HELD Mrs. Charles Surfus and Mrs. David Catto and son, Elvln, motored to Washougal, Wash., Tuesady, where they attended the funeral of C. A. Rltgell, which was held from the Meth odist Episcopal church. Mr. Rltgell was taken suddenly 111 Sunday morning with double pneurao- la while in company with David cafr to were waiting for the train for Al bany, and passed away Sunday after noon at 2f'clock. This roused the Ire ot War don Shoemaker and he and Butler had a battle of words over the affair. Al though the net was confiscated when the men were arrested Butler alleged that it wou'd be hard to prove that they were fishing for salmon as tliey had caugfit none when arrested.
