The past week has not been very favor able (or sport on the base ball itrounds owing to the continued rainy weather which has made the grounds very wet and muddy. The Independence team which wa booked for here on Saturday and Sunday came down on the Klwood on Saturday reaching hero about noon but owing to the heavy rain that after noon the game waa not called at all, and that of the following day would have been passed in the same way but for the desire of the crowd present to see a game played. The management finally yielded to their w ishe and railed a game, but it was expressly understood by the mem ber of the respective clubs that the game waa not to be counted a anything more than an exhibition one. The ground was made a good aa possible with saw dust but even then it was very wet and muddy rendering it very disagreeable playing for both side. Up to the fourth inning the game was quite even and consequently interesting but the pitcher for the Oregon City team fumbled a ball thu permitting Independence to score .our runs which practically de cided the result of the game which re sulted in a victory for Independence by a score of 12 to 5. Features of the name were Kechnor s three one-haml catches on the third and Anderson's running (catch. The score by inning wa as follows: 123456789 Oregon City 0 1020000 25 Independence ....3 0040041 12 While the day wa not very pleasant thus tending to reduce the gate receipts yet the attendance waa very fair both within and without the grounds. It waa a matter of considerable comment on all hands thrt so many should refuse to contribute to the enterprise of our own boys te refusing to pav the small sum of twenty-five cents at the gate and then gut on the rocks back of the grounds and watch the game.
