Clean up could be daunting and expensive even so. One should ask: Is the property safe for future residents? In the rush to devel- opment, no one seems to be asking that important question. Also, with less clean up required of the site, it could contin- ue to be a source of contamination to the Willamette River. Though the neighborhood associa- tion’s heart is in the right place, the need for effective clean up should temper en- thusiasm for intense housing at the site. Tall buildings also may not be the best use of the riverfront that could create a connected greenway and help restore the health of the lower Willamette River. Feedback about the project is still welcome.
