Couch & Co. have enlarged their ad. They have realized for some time that advertising paid, and de cided if a small ad was a paying proposition, a larger one should prove proportionately so. Their business has been steadily increas ing, each mouth showing a decided increase over the previous month. Careful business methods, fair and courteous treatment, and choice and fresh stock have brought this about. Mrs. C. V. Faulkner was the lucky one to win the prize of a bookcase filled with fine volumes, which has been on exhibition at Uonham & Currier's dry goals de partment for the past couple of months. An inspec tion of their goods and prices will readily convince any one that it would be the heigbth of foolishness to go to Portland to buy with the expectation of doing better than they can in St. Johns. This city should be proud of the fact that such an enterprising firm has located here. Both for the price of one admission, The United Railways Co. objects very much to making a five-cent fare from Llnntou to Portland, and one of their representatives claims that rather than do that they will tear up their tracks and replace them upon 11 private right of way. if this is done the fare from Linn- ton will likely be 15 cents. The school board has placed a handsome monument over the grave of the founder of this city, James John. It cost in the neighborhood of $500 and is a fine one. The oard deserves to be commended for paying this tribute ofn-espect to one who lias done so much for edu cation in St. Johns. The organization will be stronger than ever the coming summer and some good ball may be looked for. Whether St. Johns will be repre sented or uot is still a question. The razing of the ball grounds here has made the situation rather bad. We understand, however, that Francis I. McKenna has agreed to prepare suitable grounds just this side of Portsmouth if St. Johns will be represented this year. These grounds, which lie along the car track, should draw as large a crowd as if they were situated in the for mer location. Patronage would be attracted from University Park, Portsmouth, Portland and St. Johns. The proposition of Mr. McKenna is receiving serious consideration, and the probabilities are that St. Johns will be represented by a first class base ball club the coining season, Mr. McKenna has done more than any one man to develop the penin sula and this latest offer to provide grounds for the St, Johns club is iu keeping with his well established public spiritedness, Men's 50o Gloves Remarkably Large Durable St. Johns Harness Shop Tell us you saw it in the Review "Qulity spells success" mmmmmmmwmmmmmwmmmmmmmwmmmmmwmmmmmmwmmm !
