To the Editor of the St. Johns Review: After reading the state ment published in the last issue of your paper concerning the St. Johns ferry boat, I desire to mod ify it so far as it has reference to my telephone conversation with Mr. George M. Trowbridge, editor of the Journal. Uiwn reflection, I do not think I should have stated that the editor's conduct was such as to cause me to believe that he expected to be offered hush money or advertising to suppress certain facts he claimed to have collected concerning the ferry boat. He never in any way suggested that he would with hold them from pub lication for a money consideration aud it was not my intention to convey that impression. I should have confined my statement to the fact that he appeared extremely antagonistic against Peterson Bros. & Smith and myself aud was in clined to place implicit faith in all reports that came to turn reflecting discreditably upon us. The state- meut was written while 1 was con fined to my bed sick, at a time that I felt very much aggrieved by the falsity of the report in the Journal and my language was not guarded as carefully as it should have been.
