Let every man who docs not believe in educating rich men's sons at the public ex tieuse, while the average man can scarcely rake and scrape enough together to give his children a com mon education, call on either of the above named gentlemen, and put his John Hancock on the tietition, thereby teaching our educational pap-suckers that they can no longer combine to rob the people for their benefit. Johns. As it is now miiiiy homes are left without tide- iiuue uie proteciiou, and only u disastrous fire will thoiouglily dem onstrate the imperative necessity of the hydrants, As it is now there are only twelve hydrants in the city that can be used by the fire department. Six aie on the river front and six more are located up on the hill, It is to be hoped that the way may be seen to double this number, In order that St. Johns may con tinue needed sticet improvements i .i. . . . . , , . . ami uiui eoniniciors ooitig llie work may get their money when the job is done, and also that the jiioperty owner petitioning for tlie improvement can be coinellal to pay for the same, The Review would like to see the so-called ben efits of the llaueioft bonding act east aside and put out of the reach of the would-like-to-be boomeis, As the benefits of the llaucroft act are now used the measure is a delu sion and a snare, lly its provisions a contractor who bids on a jolt mid puts his money into it is liable to be held up indefinitely by some wily real estate boomer. Should a iiuinler of non-residents wish to improve certain stiects, it could be done providing u contract could be let, and then the contractor could be left to whistle for his money until such time as the pic&cut or future owners could pay their "ten annual payments." The llaucroft bonding act is a very handy tool for a man who wishes to get some thing for nothing in stteet improve ments, but it is hard on the man who buys and has to foot the bill caused by the other fellow's enter prise, j Hcglu the lircctlon of New of Worship.
