The gentleman attracted u big crowd and gnve excellent satisfaction, Some of these pleasant Sundays some one is going to get hurt or cilled trying to board the incoming cars late in the nfternoon. Lust Sunday it was a wonder that one or more corpses were not scut to Portland as the result of the num erous mad rushes of men and women to board the cars before they came to a stop, Few people imagine that on the ill on the opposite side of the riv er above the road house was the site of one of the finest orchards in this vicinity. Henry Smith says that when he was a boy he used to journey over there and obtain the very hnest of apples, iwaches, pears and plums. The old orchard went to decay and now the spot is cov ered with an overgrowth of brush nd ferns. The Fraternal Order of Hagles is to give a grand ball in M. W. A. hall next I ucsday evening, and lere promises to be a big time for ie faithful who may attend. The order here in this city now has nearly one hundred members, and each meeting sees several new men initiated; while the officials are striving in all ways to improve and regulate affairs so us to merit the approbation of the people. Like many of the fraternal orders the Ivagles started here with the desire upon the part of some to make it purely a "good-time" affair; but those who now head the association arc more anxious for the good opin ion of the masses than for aught else; hence the selection of new members is pursued with greater care and a higher regard for the material than for iiiiiiiIkts. This ball is extected to lc one of the finest given here. Good music will be furnished, and the lcst of order will be preserved. A general invi tation is extended to all lovers of dancing.
