As its name signifies, the institution is open for the transaction of business at all hours. Heforc midnight mi its o)cniiig day the deposits in the batik reached $500,000. Last Junu nry the stock was all subscribed for at faoo per share. It Is now worth double thnt amount. Itis predicted that all large cities will have banks oeii for business every hour of the day and night. Sundays. Alderman Norton be lieved the park should have a po liceman, and that he should be a St. Johns man, and moved that the mayor appoint sccial olicc for Cedar Park for Sunday duty and that his services be paid for by the proprietors of the park. Alderman 'llredeeii seconded the motion and it was carried, and the recorder in structed to notify the Cedar Park leopIe of the fact. Alderman Dobie of the Dock committee reported that the public dock was being used as n warehouse by various ttersons tiuil firms. A motion, made by Alderman Raser, was carried, to the effect that no freight be allowed to 1 cumin 011 the public dock longer than forty-eight hours, and City Attorney Greene was instructed to draft tin ordinance to this effect. Alderman llredeeii believed that the width of Richmond street should be ascertained. Some contend that the width of the stieet is Ho An Attempt To Destroy the Public School Building. Hut for the timely discovery by Foreman Footc of the Marine Iron Works the St. Johns public school building might now be n heap of ashes or the building in a badly damaged condition. Sunday eve ning Mr. and Mrs. Foote were out walking. On the way to their home they discovetcl smoke issu ing beneath the rear steps of the schoollbuilding. Further investiga tion disclosed a fire eating its way along the lower sill of the steps. Kdward King and Percy Rradley, two boys wht) were near, were called upon and instructed to break in the lattice window of the steps and extinguish the blaze. On entering the window the boys encountered considerable smoke, but succeeded in putting out the fire after considerable effort. The lower sill was burned into for over an inch nlong several feet of space. Close to the sill was a large bundle of wrapping paper that had been used to start the lire, from till iitMiearances It looked liKe a delib erate attempt to destroy the school building. Had the blu.e been left unmolested for ten minutes longer serious dniiiaue might have result ed. Karlier in the evening several young men and boys were seen In the vicinity smoking cigarettes. Whether the blaze was started by a discarded match or a spark from one of the cigarettes is mere con jecture. The fact that the wrap ping palter had been rolled up and shoved under the sill leads to the suspicion that a deliberate attempt was made to destroy the school building. CHURCH NO PICKS.
