PORTLAND INQUIRER SQUADRON C's "TIN HATS" By Cpl. Cecil M allele EEN -A G E youngster* in New T York City's Harlem have fun in their very own Recreation Cen ter. Located in the heart of New York City'* Harlem at 121 Lenox Avenue, the Pepsi-Cola Junior Club of Harlem has been presented as a gift to Neg.o youngsters in that community by Pcpsi-Cola Company, through its President, W alter S. Mack, Jr. The Club is run on a Three Negro Flyers Killed in Plane Crash system of *eli-government by the teen-age youngsters themselves; an adult Director and Neighborhood Committee of adults give guidance. The Center, which operates late afternoons and evenings, was pre sented by the Company so that Harlem's youngsters could have a place of their own, with games, dancing, refreshments, and activi ties they would enjoy in wholesome surroundings. p ro g ressiv e circles th ro u h g o u t th e c o u n try , as a h e a lth y sign, since he w as given m ore a u th o r ity th a n a n y o th e r N egro a p p o in tee in th e A rm y A ir Force. LIND & POMEROY F l o w e r s F o ckih o C h ll/' C o m p ly The American system of en ter prise is the best way I know to get a lot of practical men to help make prosperity in all sections of the United States. In a little town in Indiana, a man sta rts and runs a rocking chair fac tory and employs 100 people. THAT is the rig h t pattern for prosperity. He has studied rocking chairs all his life. Maybe he has failed a t it a few times, lost a lot of money, learned the hard way. But he has become an expert in the rocking chair business, a specialist. I t ’s b etter fo r thousands of men like th a t to be le ft p retty much alone to make chairs and make a reasonable profit and pay fa ir wages than it is for a lot of professors an 1 am ateurs in W ashington to try to make everybody artificially pros perous from TH ERE by taxing everybody and dividing the taxes. And much cheaper. EASY TERMS N ew 4 room hom e. H w d floors mod. k itch en . W ired fo r ran g e, e lectric h o t w a te r h e a te r, u t ility room . F lo o red attic. The Oregon Home th a t Oregon is discovering that manufactur ing is a primary source oi jobs and production. No longer are we satisfied to produce merely the raw materials and ship them away. We are beginning to learn the enormous possibilities of developing our products to their highest forms of usefulness. With its marvelous climate and its abundant low cost electric power, Oregon is undergoing a development in manufacturing which will do much to build a new measure of added prosperity.
