SEPTEMBER 25, 2020, KEIZERTIMES, PAGE A7 MONEY, continued from Page A1 Ashley Carson Cottingham Carson Cottingham is the Democrat challenger to Bethell. Her campaign has raised nearly $46,000 in cash since the beginning of 2020 and had $33,000 of it in reserve as the fi nal month of campaigning approaches. Carson Cottingham’s major donors include the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 555, the Citizen Action for Political Education PAC SAVE, continued from Page A1 individuals in, one after the other, through the duration of the reservation. The center is working with local motels to put information in the rooms so victims can fi nd a place to get help. “I think it’s important for our community to know, be- cause a lot of times they think traffi cking isn’t happening here,” Downing said. Another issue with the well meaning hashtag, it creates the illusion that only children are traffi cked, which is untrue. #SaveOurChildren takes an anti-pedophilia approach to the issue of human traffi cking instead of an anti-traffi cking each of which gave $2,500 to the campaign. The Citizen Action for Political Education Committee is largely funded by the Service Employees International Union Local 503. Her largest expenditure was $2,500 for consulting fees with PAC/West Communications. CITY COUNCIL - POSITION 1 Mike De Blasi A longtime volunteer with city advisory committees, Mike De Blasi is making a second run for the Keizer City Council and challenging stance on human traffi cking. In addition to educating and spreading accurate, helpful in- formation, individuals wanting to help fi ght human traffi cking can volunteer or donate to the center. Volunteers have to complete 50 hours of training and they must be caring and empathetic individuals. “We do have a limited amount of people that can come in and help us with sort- ing donations, but we have a volunteer coordinator and people can contact her about talking about different [ways] they can assist,” Downing said. Not everyone can commit to 50 hours of training, but they can still help by donating to victims. Survivors of human traffi ck- ing have had most of their deci- incumbent Laura Reid. De Blasi’s campaign fi nance activity showed a defi cit of about $400 at press time. His largest expense was for sign printing. Laura Reid Reid is seeking a second term on the Keizer City Council after being elected in 2016. Reid had a roughly $300 on hand according to Orestar fi lings, no expenditures were yet listed. CITY COUNCIL - POSITION 2 Ross Day Keizer attorney Ross Day sions made for them since they met their traffi cker, Downing said gift card donations are extremely helpful because not only does it provide for needs, it gives survivors the chance to pick out their own belongings. “Very often they’re wanting to learn to shop for themselves for the fi rst time and do their own laundry, those kinds of things. A gift card can be real- ly helpful. That’s just one more step for them rebuilding their lives,” Downing said. Yet another way to spread awareness of the issue of hu- man traffi cking (as well as sex- ual assault, domestic violence and stalking) is the Walk/Run that the center usually hosts in October, which is domestic vi- olence awareness month. It has been canceled this year due to COVID-19. is seeking to replace Kim Freeman the current holder of Position 2 on the council. Day had cash reserves of $6,400 at press time, that tally included a $3,000 loan from PECO Processing Service Inc, a Keizer-based corporation with Day listed as the president and agent. He had no substantial expenditures at press time. Dylan Juran Dylan Juran’s campaign fi nance committee is still in nascent stages and had no contributions or expenditures listed. POSITION 3 Kyle Juran Kyle Juran is running against Michele Roland- Schwartz to replace outgoing City Councilor Marlene Parsons. Juran had roughly $1,600 in cash reserves heading into the fi nal month of the campaign. CITY COUNCIL - Keizer Art Associa- tion’s virtual show in October is Colors of Autumn. In addition to the Center for Hope and Safety (hope- andsafety.org), Downing re- commenced the Polaris project (polarisproject.org) and Safety Compass (safetycompass.org) to help provide information about the traffi cking industry and relief for survivors and vic- tims. A quick Google search for anti-human traffi cking efforts will bring up hundreds of re- sults for various groups. Some are religious based, some are re- covery focused, some are even rescue focused. Instead of sharing #Save- OurChildren on social media, try posting resources like the national traffi cking hotline 1 888-373-7888 or the 24 hour crisis line for the Center of Hope and Safety 503-399- 7722. His largest campaign expense is signage, which total about $500 at press time. Michele Roland- Schwartz Roland-Schwartz also had $1,600 in cash leading into the fi nal month. Her largest expense was also for signage, about $460 at press time. KAA celebrates Colors of Autumn public notices general circulation in Marion County, Oregon.
