Money raised through the bond approval would pay for fi ve new ambulances, three fi re engines, a refurbishment of the current ladder truck, a rescue rig and a brush fi re ve- hicle as well as other equip- ment like heart monitors and a new vehicle extrication device. A new ambulance runs about $250,000, engines run about $500,000. Cowan said that a refreshed fl eet and equipment will take advantage of all the latest technology. For ex- ample, new heart monitors will be able to diagnose cardiac problems in the fi eld, but the cost is about $35,000 each. “The idea is that we come to your emergency and have everything that we need to do the job you need us to do wherever you are, but we need the equipment to do it,” Cowan said.
