Louis ¿eibold, special writer, of New York, wtjose name indicates his racial affiliation (Uh-huh!), has been w riting up Oregon, the ^School Bill, the Masons and the Klan in recent Issues of newspapers that buy such kiklsh stuff. We read the clipping from the Minneapolis Journal, which a friend was kinffl enough to supply. Mr. Selbold writes |n English, instead of Yiddish, and very good Engiish at that. He confesses himself puzzled, after his Oregon survey, and says the Klan is undergoing a test as a political power; that business men and political leaders are divided in opinion as to the {ictus 1 effect, but that the Klan victory is a social phenomenon; that the masked organization gained control while wearing the brand of the Democratic party. He says the Klan effort in Oregon is mainly political, but that business in this State is better than ever, with skilled labor scarce and economic troubles few; that Hard ing is strong in the State, and other conclusions, some correct and som* absurd. He lauds the 150,000,000 good roads program, and takes the foilow- lng slap at Governor Pierce “ Walter Marcus Pierce, the East Oregon farmer and politician elected to the governorship, subscribed to some of the features o f the insidious Southern creation (the KKK) and converted them to partisan uses. The fact is that expediency, rather than either conviction or sympathy, were responsible for the Democratic candidate's acceptance of the Klan Ritual.” “ Looie” doesn’t know our grand old Governor. He probably talked with Ben Selling, Julius Meier, Archbishop Christie, or Roman Benjamin himself Governor Pterce isn’t the Kina or man w~fio subscribes to an i«> doesn't believe in and strongly support. He was for the public school bill—first, last and all the time, which was sufficient to win the klannish support. Roman Bennie gnessed wrong, as he recently admitted, and politically hanged himself higher than Haaman. United States Renajor Charles MrXary likewise guessed wrong when he hastened from Washington, D. C.. to make his timid tenor- voice “ spooches” foxJJiu“Republican ticket”—meaning Roman Bennie, against the public school bill. Tbe Senator likewise committed political hirikirl ’ the coming election will demonstrate. Paper llauglag Phone Atwater *?S$ Fiederlck. T. Nota Dr. O . O . Fletcher GROCERIES - The Western American is in receipt o f a rimarkable book by Eleanor Baldwin, “ Money Talks,” carrying the axiomatic state ment that “ Money will master mankind until, mankind masters money.” A fte r absorbing the wisdom o f this volume we may tell our readers what money is, what the function o f money is, etc., but the editor must confess that, although inheriting money and making lots o f money besides in the last thirty years, he never has been able to realize what money is. nor the value o f the so- called almighty dollar. The only thing worth while in this world is friendship— good-fellowship— kindness and helpfulness. Money is without value, except as it may promote these blessings. Every derogatory story has been disproved, every assailant discredited. Klansmen are expected to stand loyally by the’ Imperial Wizard during the present period o f development, and to assist Grand Dragon G ifford in his work o f perfecting the Oregon State or ganization.
