Plans '.vere laid for the annual club break fast and election of officers in May. A committee was appointed to plan fhe breakfast and get up the program Tor the day. Several very interest ing topics on Venzuela were discussed on the afternoon program. Parent Teachers Monday, May 6th, is the regular meeting date for the Parent-Teacher Association members. A program will be given and tho annual election of officers held. All members are urged to be present and take part ir the election, and the plans for thc coming years work. A. Boyd, formerly manager of the Vale Electric (Jompany in Vale, was a visitor in town the first of the week, on his way to Burns on a busi ness visit. Mr. Boyd is at present connected with an electric supply firm in Boise, and was accompanied by A. F. Sadler, of Salt Lake. H. G. Wells and J. A. Reed were arrivals in town Tuesday. F. G. Evans was a Vale visitor from Watson Tuesday. Geo. H. Bodf ih' was a Malheur city visitor the first of the week. John S. Cole was a Coos Bay visitor in the city Tuesday. C. II. Rogers and F. Hi-JFownley came to" Vale Tuesday from their home in Watson, on a brief visit. W. H. Blunt was a Caldwell arrival in Vale Wednesday. Phil Morton was a Westfall arrival in the county seat Saturday. "H. H. and Mabel Robin were Crane visitors tho latter part of last week. Mrs. R. A. Duncan of Ironside was in Vale Tuesday. Mrs. Duncan has just returned from an extended visit at Newport and Bellingham, Wash ing ton where she visited her son Uay Duncan. H. Scholottman of Brogan was a business visitor in Vale Monday and Tuesday of this week. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Morton were busiress visitors in Morman Basin I his week, motoring up. Ladies' Aid The Ladies' Aid of the Christian church will meet in the lecture room of the church on Friday, May 3rd, at 2:30 P. M., for their regular monthly business meeting. All other Fridays jxeept the first in each month, they meet at the Red Cross rooms. CHRISTIAN BIBLE SCHOOL The Christian Bible School meets werv Sunday at 10 o'clock. There is class for everyone, and all are cordially invited to attend. A new 'radio roll class has been organized -"or the little tots, and a special course of lessons well adopted to the little wes is being used. Immediately following the Bible 'ehool is the communion services at 11 o'clock. All church members are isked to attend. On Thursday evening, May 2, the -egular monthly conference will be leld in the church. New officers and eachers will be elected to. fill the ilaces of those going away for the lummer. Not only officers and teach 2rs are urged to attend, but any others 'nterested in the welfare of the school. METHODIST CHURCH 10 A. M. Sunday School. A special Self-Denial offering will be taker, for our new flag. 11 A. M. Preaching by pastor. 8 P. M. Special Patriotic service. In response to a request by Secre tary McAdoo a Liberty Sunday Patriotic Service will be held. Secretary McAdoo says in his letter o the ministers: "The Gospel of Religion and Patriotism should be driven home to the people. It is a time for the Sword of the Lord and of Gideon." CHRISTIAN-ENDEAVOR Christian Endeavor meets in the Methodist church during the month of April, nt 7 o'clock each Sunday even ing. The topic for next Sunday is, "The Power of the Cross in the City Slums." This will be of unusual interest as a debate is to be given on the subject. "Resolved that the Salvation Army is a mightier witness of Christ in the city slums than tho church." The leaders in tho debate are Francis Bartshe and Hazel Daley. The Mission Study Class of the C. Harry Jackson Returns Harry Jackson, a well known hido and fur buyer of Vale, who has been in busi ness in Vale for a number of years, returned Saturday from Pueblo, Col orado, bringing with him his bride. They were married in Pueblo last week. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson will make their home in Vale. Goes to Portland R. H. DeArmond, a well known rancher of this section, who has been ill for the Dast two weeks at the Vale Sanitarium left Saturday for Portland, for medical treatment A report has. been receiv ed that he is rapidly improving. Mrs. Mrs. DeArmond accompanied him School Picnic The seventh grade boys were hosts to the seventh grade girls and their teacher Miss Jones Thursday afternoon when they gave a Eicnic, paying off the debt contracted y losing out in a contest of absence and tardiness during the school year. Leave For Homestead Dr. Har riet Sears and her neice Miss Gladys Turner loft the first of the week for Miss Sear's homestead in the Bonita country. Miss Sears intends to re main .on the place. McGillivray of Portland arrived in Vale Thursday to visit some time at the home of their son A. jviciiii livray. Former Soldier Drills The Vale Home Guard has secured the services of Jackson Gillette, a former Soldier, serving six years in the U. S. miantry. Gillette has been giving the local company drill in marching formations, and states that he hopes to have the men in good shape after a month or more. Bulletins Please The war bulletins furnished by the Enterprise, which are posted daily at the Pastime Pool Hall and Post Office News Stand, are be ing closely watched every day. Vale people were informed of tho English Naval attack on the German U-boat bases; the American engagement at Toul; movement of tho government's great mankilling machine, and other news of vital interest during the past week all about eighteen hours in advance of when they would have formerly read tho news. Children Visit Mrs. Albert Cane of Whitehall Montana and Mrs. Ivan Burns of Pocatello are visiting at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Murray in Vale. Undergoes Operation Sam Tim brell of Crane who was in Vale the first of the week went to Ontario Tuesday where he submitted to an oneration for annendicitis. Mrs. Tim- brell was with him and reports that ne is doing nicely. Former Resident Visits Mrs. Ralph Weaver formerly of Vale visited last week with friends in the city before returning to her Crane home. The following copy of a new para graph which will be inserted in the teachers contracts in Oregon for the coming school year, was received 'by County Superintendent Miss Clark. Department of Education, Salem: Sup. Fay Clark, Vale Oregon.
