SOCIETY COLUMN Social Functions Enjoyed by People of Vale. ' tn Scouts Entertain Wednesday evening the First Patrol Boy Scouts entertained the members .if the 'Second Patrol and their girl friends numbering in all about forty, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Romph. Most enjoyable evening was spent in vamts and social intercourse. Light refreshments were. Scouts Please Report All Boy Scouts of Valo are re quested to report at the home of the Scout Master on Saturday at one o'clock to line up for the big Patriotic Rally. Citizens are. urged to use a Boy Scout blank when buying Third Liberty Loan bonds. Guild Meets The Ladies of the Episcopal Guild met at the Guild hall Thursday after noon for the regular monthly meet ing with Mrs. J. F. Miller as hostess. This was the day for the opening of the Lenten offering boxes and each member gave two dollars which she had earned in some way during Lent. A large number of ladies attended. Monday Club The regular meetingof the Monday Club will be held with Mrs. G. A. Ruring Monday of the coming week. Bridge Cluo" Meets Mrs. R. H. DeArmond was hostess for the Wednesday Bridge Club this week, entertaining at the home of Miss Mary Glenn. A most delight ful afternoon was spent by the mem bers attending. Ladies Aid Meets The Ladles of the Methodist Aid held a social meeting at the home of Mrs. Lenard Cole on Thursday after noon. A number of new ladies were welcomed into the society on this day. J. C. Brandon, who owns a large band of sheep in the Owyhee, was in town this week, rounding up men for the lambing season. Mr., Brandon stated that lambing would begin the latter part of this week. Gus Mansfield was a Jamieson visitor in the city Sunday. W. C. Tomlin, of Harper, was a visitor in the city the first of the week. Jas Booher, of Watson, spent a few days in Vale this week. W. W. Caviness, of Bonita, is in town this week, renewing acquaint ances. Mrs. H. Nevvby and daughter, of Nyssa, were in Vale Saturday of last week. H. E. The Services Easter Sunday were full of joy and gladness. At the morn ing Service Opal Eva and Ruby Win ifred, daughters of Mrs. Ivors, and Harrv E. the little son of Mr. and Mrs. Spieth received the sacrament of Bap tism: the following also united witn our church, Mr. and Mrs. Lumpee and their daughter Leah, Charley A. Ran dolph, and Mr. and Mrs. Spietli. Wo extend to these worthy people a most cordial welcome into our fellowship. CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOR Christian Endeavor meets next Sun day evening at tho Methodist church at 7:00 P. M. Last Sunday evening the Juniors gave a very interesting Easter pro gram for the Seniors, under the di rection of Misses Fay Chester and Jean Bartshe. The program was good and was the result of much practice and hard work on the part of the Juniors and their leaders. On Wednesday evening the En deavors met at the home of Francis and Jean Bartcho to organize a mis sion study class. "The Lure of Africa" is the book to be used and it promises to be an interesting study. Monday evening, April 8, is the time for the regular monthly busi ness meeting which will be held in the lecture room of the Christian church. A number of important busl ness matters are to be brought up and it is qulto necessary for every member to be present, in touch with the boys at the front whose names arc on the new honor roll. The monthly conference for teach ers and offcers was held Thursday evenincr. After a short devotional service, the business matters of the school were discussed. A social hour was enjoyed before the close of the meeting. Dance Despite a sudden touch of cold weather, a jolly crowd of dancers attended the April fool dance given by the local lodge of the Knights of Pythias Monday, evening, and the war fund of that lodge was given a substantial boost. B. Earp the former Hall, by the Rev. Dr. George W. Van Waters, assisted by the General Mis sionary, the Rev. Chas. H. Powell, and continuing each day and includ ing the Tuesday, the 11th. The services will be held at 8 o'clock each evening. TV. Van Waters was for many years the efficient head and beloved rector of one of the largest Portland parishes, is a thinker and a scholar: his lectures will prove an intclectual treat for his hearers as well as afford deep deligious inspiration. In this time of stress we instinctive ly turn to Mother church for guidance and consolation, and these lectures with the assurance that each one must feel that the hour so devoted could not have been spent to better ad vantage. Easter Services Held In all the city churches last Sun day morning special exercises by tho children and special music by the choirs marked the Easter tide service. At the Enisconal church a special chorus choir rendered caster music, at the Christian church the children gave a program in the morning and the Methodist church held special services both morning and evening in which children and grown-ups took part.
