; GENUINE CHARACTER.
. Genuine character is a combination of
qualities. It is the largest and best part
of a good personality. Character is what
the banker wants in a cashier, or the bus
iness establishment wants in its manager
or clerk. It is what the schools want in
the teacher above everything else; The
happy disposition, the love of children,
and all other qualities that makes up a
desirable personality, must have their
setting in true manly or womanly char
acter if the teacher is. to perform his part
in the important mission of his profession.
The teacher is wanting in this import
ant qualification who takes God's, name
in vain or who repeats vile, vulgar sto
ries to either boys or men; of who uses
intoxicating liquors. The teacher is
wanting in character who cheats in a
teachers' examination; who permits the
temptation of cheating to be placed be
fore pupils, and who certifies falsely to
the qualifications of members of the base
ball or football team.- . Genuine char
acter never attempts to win unfairly.
It never underbids or undermines to get
a place held by a colaborer. It never
offends good people by attending places
of questionable amusement, either public
or private. It is rather an influence that
can be trusted absolutely with young
lives and that always makes hoys and
girls more honest,' truthful and upright.
The child is sensitive to personality.
He naturally desires to love his teacher
and to imitate his teacher's manner and
personal traits. The teacher is the pu
pil's ideal. This gives the teacher an
enviable place of honor with youth, but
at the same time imposes upon him
moral responsibility almost equal to

LANGUAGE LESSONS-
Below we produce some language
lessons of the little boys and girls of the
first grade. As will be. observed, they
are not corrected, being left just as they
reached us. Some of the words have
the proper letters used in their- spelling,
but are so transposed that they spell
words which they are not intended to
spell, getting ludicrous results in some
cases.
The little ducks swim in the deap
water sometimes the ducks go quack
sometimes the cats go mew and purr and
the horse go neigh and neighing and the
god go around the house a barking to
