Robert Service. CHRISTMAS, Good morning Mr. Santa Glaus! Ah, the good cheer 'throughout the Christ mas world today! Thousands of people will know the joy olgiving and receiv ing. There will befitting observance of this holy holiday in every Christian clime, and instruments and voices shall be tuned together for, a rendition of the mighty symphony in the name of the Messiah the Christ. All will be joy so far as it shall be within the power of .thoughtful minds, loving hearts and willing hands to make it so. - Hut in spite of all that can be done there must, saddening as is the thought, remain many unfortunates who shall know, now none of the joys and blessings of this sacred holiday Reason. Knowing this, let us each. and all resolve, to min ister to such cases-should we beral lowed the privilege, and assist in - lifting for a little time the burden of another who is weighed dovn.-.: with more than his' share of cares and sorrows, To all . our readers The American wishes a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, CHRISTMAS NOTES. Owning to,the rush of getting ready for the Christmas festivities our issue this week simply uives the programs and hardly tells what has been done, so next week we will give our readers :i full account of the. Christmas festivities, Certainly things were "popping" this week in getting ready. The popcorn was raised at the school; shelled by flu little boys, and popped in the kitchen, In another department could be seen candy bags being filled with orangey apples, candy and nuts. Then again in another place Santa Claus was looking over presents to he given to the pupils of Chemawa. ., Then over in the school house every body was getting ready for the enter tainment and for the exercises on Christ mas morning. Even out on the football gridiron could be seen both the first and second teams busily engaged, getting ready; the second team for the game Christmas Day with the Albina Athletic Cluh of Portland, and the first team for their game with the Catholic Young Men's Club in Portland the day after Christ mas. i In the big gymnasium Mr, Woods and his force were putting up the Christ mas tree and getting ready for Santa to put his presents thereon. On Tuesday the girls visited Santa Glaus in Salem and on Wednesday the boys had a chance to do the same. This article was written right in the midst of the Christmas hurry, and as mentioned above, a full account of the festivities will be given in our next issue,
