6 THE CHEMAWA AMERICAN L OCALS Miss Koester went to Salem Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Woods were in Salem Saturday. Mrs. Mann and Mrs. Liphart went to Portland Friday. Mrs. Campbell and . Miss Irene went to Salem Saturday. Clara Reed returned to school from her vacation Sunday. John Roberts from Lapwai, Idaho, was admitted last week. Misj3 Eva Woods was out from Salem to visit her parents Saturday. Mrs. Lemory from Montana is visiting her cousiris, , Margaret and Murrey. Joseph Teabo went to Grande Ronde Thursday; morning to visit his brother. Mr. Chalcraft is having a dark room made for the photographers on the grounds. Miss Ella Brewer is going to stop in Salem and attend College as soon as the weather gets bad. ' - Mrs. Robert Tucker from Portland and Mrs. J. F. Smith from Milton, Pa., (near Carlisle) were visitor? Monday. Miss. Skipton, Mrs, and Miss Royer and a number: of girls were gathering fern Sunday for the dining hall decorations,'- . ;' '.. - -j- Nora and Hattie Mann visi t their par ents every Saturday, f hey are stopping in Salem, keeping house and going to the Capital Business College. The following girls were promoted from the small girls' home to McBride Hall: Lenora Rainville, Alice Sam, Mar tha Andy, Jenny Luke, Annie Oleson and Ellen Arcasa. Cyril Morrisette, Walter Miller, and Harry Quachpalma have returned to Chemawa. They are all members of thp band. Their arrival means a great .deal for. the band. They are also good foot ball players. Robert C. Spink, ex-chiei clerk at this school, paid Chemawa and his many friends here a visit Saturday, enroute to Klamath Agency. While here Mr. Spink was the guest of Mr, and Mrs. Edwin L Chalcraft. Mr. and Mrs. Spink were with their daughter, Claudia, at the hos pital in Portland, while she underwent a slight operation for throat trouble, but the little. one is well on the way to recov ery and we hope to see Mrs. Spink and Claudia sfop off here on their way back from Portland, Tuesday. SOCIETIES Excelsiors Excelsior society had their meeting in the chapel. No debate took place, but a little real business came up and was settled. Then the program was given and afterwards some out of the way business came up and was never settled as the bell tapped and we adjourned. The following was our program : Kec itation, Thomas Case; Clarinet fcolo, James Evans; Vocal solo, Minnie Picard; Piano solo, Esther Napoleon; Clarinet solo, Alex Cajete. Uncle Sams.. The Uncle Sams met in their usual place. The roll was called. The following officers were elected: President, Chester Mecum; Vice-president, Miller Charles; Secretary, Ben Moore; Treasurer, Patsy Barrett; Sergeant-at-arms, Mike Oleson; Reporter, John Service, Subscribe for the Chemawa American.
