THE CHEMAWA AMERICAN 5 Thanksgiving Day at Chemawa. Thanksgiving Day, 1906, passed off pleasantly at Chemawa. It was an ideal one, At ten o'clock the student body and employes assembled in the' school chapel which had been tastily decorated by a committee of teachers. Big pump kin?, big cabbages, potatoes and other products of Mother Earth held promi nent places in the scheme of decoration. The following program was rendered: Hymn, We Plow the Fields and Scat ter, ... . . .Choir. Prayer, By Rev. Wm. Winans. Hymn, Come Ye Thankjul People Come, . . .School. Reading, President's Proclamation, Charles Bardwell. Hymn, For the Beauty of the Earth, School. Responsive Heading, Ninty Sixth Psalm. Address, Mr. Weber. Hymn, America, . . . School. Benediction. The address of Mr. Weber was well adapted for the occasion. He was at tentively listened to by the student body nnd many 1 favorable comments .were made by bis hearers. , The next on the program was dinner at twelve o'clock. The dining room had b(wn neatly and appropriately decorated nnd the tables groaned with good things to eat, which were dispatched in good order after the benediction, which Mr. Wi nan suggested should be sung ."Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow." At each plate was placed a neatly print ed menu. The first page contained'the President's Proclamation, the second, a front view of Chemawa's Dining Room and then the Menu and the Program of the-'ay. The Menu was as follows: ' Roast turkey, with dressing Oiblet Sauce. Cranberry Sauce. Sweet Potatoes. Mashed Potatoes. Stewed Onions. Cold Slaw. Sweet Pickles. Pumpkin Pie. Apples. Crackers. White Bread. Dairy Butter. Coffee. After the inner man had been attend ed to, the Second team lined up on Che mawa's gridiron against a pick-up team and in two twenty-five minute halves rolled up four touch - downs and tvyo goals, making the score 22 to 0, in favor of the Second team. In the evening basket ball held sway in the school gymnasium. . The Farmers and the Dairymen game being followed by a game between the Yakimas and Second team, and, also, a game between the First and Second Girls' team, account of which games will be found in another column. All in all Chemawa passed a very pleasant Thanksgiving day. We must not forget the nice dinner which was prepared for the employes at the Teachers' Club, under Miss Dohse's management. The decorations were quite elaborate and. the menu consisted of all the good things of the season. Notes On thanksgiving evening the First girl's basket ball team was defeated by the second girl's basket ball team by a score of 13 to 10, which demonstrates that the school team is yet to be select ed to represent any contests with other teams. The boys' second basket ball team , were defeated by the Yakimas on thanks giving evening by a score of 8 to 2. In a warmly contested game, the ploughmen tlefeated the milkmen by a score of 10 to 4 on thanksgiving even ing. Chemawa's foot ball team went down to defeat befove the Astoria Athletic Club on thanksgiving day at Aetoria by a score of 11 to 5.
