THIS DAY A CONTINUAL BOUND OF FEAST, FROL
Thanksgiving Day was observed In an
elaborate anti appropriate manner at ' the
Salem Indian Training School, at Che
mawa, the exercises beginning at 8:45 o'
clock in the morning with an excellent
concert by the band, the program of which1
was compoBed of special selection of music
for the occaeion and rendered as only that
well known musical organization can, aod'
ende lw the evening by a sociable in the
school-gymnasium, which the pupils antl
employes enjoyed to the fullest, the day, as
a whole, heinga "red. letter" one for the
pupils of the whole Institution.
The school chapel in which the exercises
were held, beginning at 9:80 o'clock a. m,
immediately following the band , concert,
was a perfect bower of beauty, being very
tastefully (decorated with vegetables and
fraitfy.tbe products of the school garden,"
and symbolizing a bountiful harvest, art is
tleslly set off with (he ever verdant and
and glowiy Oregon grape, ferns, and roses
and chrysant hemums and beautifully drap
ed with the '.'stars andv stripes,' the three,
colors of which well harmonize with any
surrounding..
, The program of the examines, which wer
rendered during the forenoon, was. very
interesting throughout and received the
undivided attention of the pupils and em
ployes, is given in full, herewith, as fol-

The spacious dining loom was very
artistically arranged with Oregon grape,
.ferns, and the ever present and predomi
nant fratnre of the decorations of (hat
institution, the American flag, and the
.scene of the entire student body, with
bright and happy countenance, marching
in at 12 o'clock, won and seating them
selves at the heavily laden tables was a
sight that wsb most inspiring to behold. .
:, Almosteverything imaginable was heaped
upon the tableB to be . devoured by these
1 happy people, whoseexultant countenances
betrayed their appreciation very plainly. ,
A faint Idea of the quantity of food
required may be obtained from the state-
. ment that over 600 pounds of turkey alone
was prepared. The menu for the occasion
. was as follows:

second football team played a game with
the Reform School team, ; which resulted
in a victory for the Chemawa team by a
score of 2t to 5. ...
For the pleasure and benefit of the new
Mudents' the first and second lady basket
ball teams of theschool played a practice
game in the evening, which -was so ctonely
coiitested as to make it Interesting to alt,
After the game the remainder of the
evening was devoted to a Social, which
was participated in generally, and
the spirit of the occasion was greatly
heightened with music by the baud, which
wsb the closing scene to a most enjoyable
days feast and. frolic, which will be forever
cherished in the memory of all who were
so fortunate as to have been iu attendance.
