Mr. T o w n sen d g rap h ically portrayed the stag es of g ro w th by which the m em bership of the association has in creased from nin eteen in 1892 to one h u n d red and tw e n ty -tw o in 1908. He show ed in som e d etail how the Y. M. C. A., at first n ot a considerable factor in the life of the U niversity, has irrown to be its m ost representative body. He show ed the need for w ork ers w hich h as com e w ith the increased m em bership and activ ity of the associ ation, and u rg ed his h earers to throw th em selves in to avenues of unselfish effort alo n g the lines of Y. M. C. A. work. “ T h e m ark for the m em bership com m ittee next y e a r,” said the speaker, “ is fifty per cent of the men in college. ( )ur rapid and h ealth fu l grow th in the past is due to the fact th at the associa tion has at all tim es m aintained a high stan d ard . T h is stan d ard , if we wish to increase o u r m em bership, m ust not only be m ain tain ed , but raised, 'file otilv wav to raise the stan d ard of the ag g reg ate is for the individual m em ber to raise his individual stan d ard .
