A^e Stronger TOGETHER J o in -f c J -io L J n io n ! Join nearly 2,000 homecare workers who have taken a stand for quality care and fair wages and benefits by joining SEIU Local 503, OPEU. If you have already joined the Union, please give the enclosed applica tion to a friend, neighbor, or family member who is also a homecare worker. Your involvement and support is essential. Paying our dues allows us to pool our resources to support the campaign with mailings, phones and staff support. These resources allow us to cultivate and deepen our support among coalition partners and improve our visibility within the legislature. The dues are 1.35% of your wages and an additional assessment dedicated to ballot measures of up to $2.75 per month depending on number of hours worked (ranging from 10 cents to $2.75). For example, if you earned $100, your dues would be $1.35, with the assessment less than $.50 cents. When you join the union, your dues can be automatically deducted from the check you receive from Senior and Disabled Services. Your membership signals your support and assists in positioning us to begin bargaining for improvements for ourselves and our clients. | c a lk - t o O UT» C Z ^ Iio r r t s ! Just as California homecare workers were supported by their clients in pushing for change, we need our clients’ support here in Oregon. In California, the elderly and people with disabilities are enjoying better and more accessible care as a result of having a voice as the employer. Your client should know that passage of ballot measure 99 expands their ability to choose their caregiver, including a family member, and will improve the quality of their care. Clients interested in learning more about the commission should call Karla Spence at 1-800-452-2146, ext. 129. Unlike other workers, we as homecare workers do not have many opportunities to interact with each other. You can help build the Union and meet other homecare workers in your neighborhood by hosting a small meeting or by joining an organizer to visit homecare workers and clients who live nearby. For more info, call Andrew at 1-800-527-9374, ext. 114. In v o lv e Y o t r r C Z ^ o r n r n u n i-h c i !
