I have been active in the Union as a Homecare Worker, serving on our leadership council and recently elected to be a bargaining delegate in our first contract campaign. I have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and serve all Local 503 members in District 2. UNION EX PERIEN CE NOT ITEM IZED ABOVE: l am good on phone banks, I ’ve lobbied at the legislature and I am passionate in my belief that the labor movement is the best way for workers to advocate for justice and dignity. I hope to bring more members into leadership roles and enable members to move their issues forward. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS F O R YOUR DISTRICT? Providing better communication between district officers and the members and inspiring more members to participate in district business. WHAT IS TH E BIGGEST SINGLE ISSUE TH E UNION W ILL FACE DURING YOUR TERM AND HOW WOULD YOU PRO PO SE TO RESOLVE IT ? The union faces major challenges in contract enforcement, bargaining for living wages and health coverage that is meaningful. All of this adds up to money. We need to work towards better funding of public services and higher ed. We need a focused effort to eliminate the sniping attacks on public employees and to connect with the communities of this state towards a stable, meaningful source of revenue. District 3N District Director WHY ARE YOU SEEKING THIS O FFIC E AND WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FO R SEIU LOCAL 503, OPEU DURING YOUR TERM ? I am seeking this office to be a part of a team seeking solutions to the challenges that face us collectively. I want to continue to develop a “hands on” knowledge and skills that support the overall mission of our Union. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FO R YOUR D ISTRICT? I would like to work on health care issues that face our members who are fortunate to have coverage, but see benefits and access eroding and to help Homecare Workers get health care coverage in our first contract. I would like to work on projects that help the public better understand and recognize the value of providing good public service. I am seeking to become ADD for very selfish reasons: I believe it would give me a broader range of experience within the union and enable me to provide better understanding of union processes for the members of my local. Beyond my own local, 1 want all 503 locals to be strong. My goal would be for all 503 locals to coordinate on health care reform. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FO R YOUR DISTRICT? increased CAPE and District level participation. For the district to be strong, we must have depth in the organization. Without a doubt - healthcare reform. Workers under the PEBB umbrella may feel like they are being squeezed hut they haven’t seen the worst of it! For Local Gov’t, HomeCare, PNP the last several years have been disasterous in terms of benefit packages. Since 19961 have been active in the union. I have been President and Steward of my local for four years. I have been a MOC and a VOC and am a CAPE delegate. I am currently serving ADD for District 2. I am seeking this office to be an active participant in my Union, to have a voice and help shape future outcomes. My goals will be to help strengthen our Union and support and assist District 3 Directors in increasing participation with other members, WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS F O R YOUR D ISTRICT? My goals for the district is to help strengthen the district as a whole and represent the goals of our district at the Board and assist with communications within the District. WHAT IS TH E BIGGEST SINGLE ISSUE TH E UNION W ILL FACE DURING YOUR TERM AND H O W W OULD YOU PRO PO SE TO RESOLVE IT ? The single biggest issue the Union will face during my term is the State’s budget deficit. I think we need to elect legislators who support public workers and the important services we provide. We also need to build public support and political power to tackle issues o f tax fairness between individuals and businesses in our communities. O THER INFORMATION TO SUPPORT YOUR CANDIDACY: I have good people skills, I listen well and have a high level of patience with people with diverse backgrounds. I am organized and good at juggling schedules. My family is very active in our community. We volunteer at our public schools, help organize music festivals, stream clean up projects, building trails and United Way Day of Caring Project.
