A F F A I R S O N I O N OPEG Backs Controllers OPEU's Board of Directors are urging all Oregon public employes to boycott airline service as a show of support for striking air traffic controllers. OPEU president Deb Bolton said the action is not just in support of PATCO (the controllers’ union), but is in support of the right of every public employe to participate in collective bargaining. The recommendation came on a unanimous vote at the Board's Aug. 22 meeting. “The action taken by the Reagan administration is extreme and the start of an excessively negative, anti union campaign,” said OPEU execu tive director Thomas Gallagher. “ It is time for the administration to return to the table in respect for those issues being raised by these public em ployes. The administration has had plenty of opportunities to get its point across without firing the striking controllers.” Gallagher added that he believes it took extreme provocation by the administration to force 12,000 em ployes to walk off the job and to stay off the job. In other action at the Aug. 22 meeting, the Board passed the following major motions: To increase Kathy Perrenboom's (board recording secretary) compensation from $6.50 per hour to $7.25 per hour effective July 1,1981. with a review during January 1982; To draft a modification of Thomas Gallagher's New District Officers The following members have been elected to district offices.
