36 (Continued from Page 35) after a four-year stretch as draftsman at Commercial Iron Works. Ed Reef of the Materials Department is back at his old job. Ed worked in an oil field in California part of the time he was away. EUGENE CHAPTER No. 6 " Watch Eugene Grow” No, we haven’t folded up, just re cuperating from the recent flood. Now we can concentrate on membership. We have increased from 49 to 62 members and are still growing. We will settle for 100% membership. Vern Sherrett, bridge foreman, is spending his week-ends lately on the Umpqua. He’s a brute for punishment, but he has caught one nice Chinook salmon that we know of. Our chapter secretary, Chas. Thorn ton, commutes between Eugene and Portland, due to the housing situation in Eugene. Every chapter has someone that can be depended upon to furnish good cof fee, etc., at the meetings. We are thank ful for our "Rudie” Siegmund. A t our last meeting he changed from coffee to Sanka, and no one could tell the dif ference. Members of the Association, and highway employees who were in the armed forces, but who have returned to the Department in the past few months, include the following: Chas. Maxwell, John Adams, Virgil Brown, Donald Hardcastle, Walter Wright, Marion A. Janes, Melvin R. King and Earl Calkins. Earl Calkins, computer for Umph- lette, has moved to Swisshome and is now working as helper on the mainte nance crew. Leo Ordway of Salem No. 1 was a visitor at our last meeting. Paul Sims and O tto Hunzicker, for mer members of the Association, are back with the Department. Sims is working as mechanic on Nash’s oiling crew and Hunzicker- is with Barker’s paving crew.
