17 LA GRANDE CHAPTER Nq, 4 Mr. Ed Chidsey and Mr. Joe Camp bell went to Salem to gather informa tion on the Retirement and Civil Serv ice Bills which were passed by the Leg islature. Mr. O. G. McComb, Draftman Grade 4 in La Grande, celebrated his birthday on March 13 th, although it was on Friday he still had good luck and received a pipe. We seldom see "Mac” without a pipe. Confidentially, he wouldn’t tell us how old he was either. Francis Hamilton, who works id the Division Office, and her husband, Bill Hamilton, State Policeman, celebrated their first wedding anniversary May 7. Congratulations Francis and Bill. Don Gruis, employed in the Shops, is recovering from an operation performed in April. Walter J. Herberger, former Shop Off iceman, has been transferred to As toria as Off iceman under L. V. Koons. Congratulations to Walt and Leona on the birth of their second child, a girlj born April 5 th in LaGrande. "Walt also visited in LaGrande May 7th. He came to take his family to Astoria with him. Elmer J. Skala, former Assistant Shop Officeman has taken over the du ties of Shop Officeman in the La Grande Shops. George Ferree, Section Foreman at. Baker, is in Portland under medical ob servation. Walt Denson, formerly of Meacham, has been transferred to Seneca as Sec tion Foreman. Jim McCullough and George C. Til ley have quit the Highway and bought the Elk Horn Restaurant at Burns. Frank Thomas, formerly of the Shops, quit the Highway and is working in La Grande. Bert Johnson, A. J. Mutchler and Ro land Shaw have left the Shops to go to their respective crews for the summer. See you next fall boys.
