43 of Ray Betzer, our Shop Superintend ent, is now stationed at El Centro, Cali fornia. Capt. Betzer has served thirteen months overseas in the Pacific theater with the transport air group and is now awaiting re-assignment. One of our Klamath Falls Chapter members, James Francis, has had sev eral letters recently from Pvt. Gail Williamson, who isstationed in Phila delphia. Floyd H. Simmon, Lt. (j.g.), former Bridge foreman for the State Highway Department is'in the South Seas, He has seen no Japs yet but has observed the results of their occupation. Olaf <3. FranSen, M.M. l/.c, is in the Pacific area and has seen lots of bomb ing action. Leonard B. Batzner, M.M. 1/e, Sur face foreman oil crew- No. 1, has been attached to a hospital unit for-'several months. Leonard isn o w at a port of embarkation ready for further service. Cpl. John F. Kergil, former, assist ance man at Astqria, is now with U.S. Army in France. He has collected a good many German souveniers and is trying to hang onto them. Rex A. Grabenhorst, F l/c,. is a for mer tender driver, oil crew No. 1. His ship is a floating machine shop now in the South Pacific. He is now in the Hawaiian Islands in the ordinance department. Sgt. John A. Howery, former em ployee of the Oregon State Highway Department in Astoria, is now in France. John no doubt has seen lots of action and will be glad to wind it all up and come home. Pfc. Lowell C. King, a former truck driver for the State' Highway Depart ment, was last heard of in England. Don Hamilton, a former truck driv er for the State Highway Department, is now in the Merchant Marines. He has had some interesting experiences in his many Voyages, Chas. Gambell, C.B., former office man at Astoria, is in the Pacific area. On November 8, 1944, Pvt. David M. Palmer, U,S. Infantry, of Manzan ita, was seriously wounded in France. As yet no definite wotd has been re ceived of the seriousness of his condi tion. Kelly was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action.
