2 Portland Chapter No. 17 A hearty welcome to Portland Chap ter No. 17, organized by State em ployees stationed in the Oregon Build ing, Portland. Officers elected at the first meeting were: Allen A. French, president; R. W. Patterson, vice president, Miss C. A. Hill, secretary-treasurer. The employees in this chapter repre sent several State Departments includ ing Public Utilities, State Department and Department of Public Health. We welcome this new chapter into our association. A. J. Ford, President, and Forrest Stewart, Executive Secretary, assisted in getting the new chapter organized. Meet Our Secretary-Treasurer partment in 1919 as computer, by Un ion County in 1920 as locating engin eer, after which he returned to the Oregon State Highway Department in 1921 as transit-draftsman. In 1924 he accepted a position with Washington County as locating engin eer, but returned to the Oregon State Highway Department a year later in the capacity of assistant market roads en gineer. In 1929 he served as county engineer and roadmaster for Washing ton county. In 1930 he returned to the State Highway Department as dis trict maintenance superintendent and in 1940 was promoted to assistant maintenance engineer which position he now holds. Buck is a hard worker and is always busy at work or at play. He likes hik ing over mountain trails and fishing.
