21 CHAPTER NEWS vote his spare time in behalf of the Newport Chapter. Mr. Wells’ resigna tion was accepted and our Section Foreman, O tto Horton of Sweet Home, was selected to serve out his unexpired term. Coffee, cake and ice cream was served by the entertainment committee from Albany. Near the end of the meeting Bill Mespelt came forward and meekly in quired as to his chances of obtaining a duplicate membership card. Upon ques tioning, it seemed that Bill had wan dered off to the Big Town in quest of some new liniment for his rheuma tism. While there some Portland slicker had slyly but successfully relieved him of his billfold, containing his member ship card and other valuables. His ra tion book, driver’s license, hospital card and his OSEA membership card have all been duplicated at this time and last seen, Bill was tearing madly around town trying to find someone that would issue him duplicate greenbacks to re place those stolen with his wallet. We do not print this at Bill’s request, but as a warning to other members who might stray from their home pastures. Bill says those fellows are so beastly clever that this could happen to any one who happens to have too much faith in their fellow man.
