20 CHAPTER NEWS of the Bend Chapter. Ken received a set of instructions on how to build a sun dial. Following is a list of the visitors at our meeting: C. A. Boyce, Astoria Chapter, Seaside; Mrs. K. B. Lathim, Prineville; Kristina A. Swanson, Sa lem; Mrs. L. V. Taylor, The Dalles; Martin Buckholz, Salem; L. V. Taylor, The Dalles; W. F. Whaley, Salem. The committee on refreshments de cided to have something special for the June meeting and after rejecting sev eral ■ suggestions finally settled on doughnuts and coffee. Everyone was surprised. O ur ex-helper at Brothers, Paul Tay lor, was in the other day kidding the boys about going back to work for the Highway Department. Before he left he was glad to get back to the rancho w ithout getting asphalt all over his clothes, because he was almost led to believe that he was re-frozen as of now. Bill Meeks brought him in, in a man ner that looked as if it was a pretty serious affair. They do say that the big curly head ed boy from Suntex reported a good catch over the weekend. How about it Cottingham? Clyde Bramlette of Paisley has found out how to irrigate gardens. They say the “flood” system gets ’em. Sam Taylor, formerly of Silver Lake, and more recently of Veneta, has taken the Alkali Lake Section. This is where the air corps boys laid eggs in our front yard, and made the air blue with .SO W hen you think of Life Insurance . . . (Billie) James of Lapine ex pects to be called to the Veterans hos pital in Portland within a few days, as he has his notice to be ready. We can’t follow him down there, so we will have to write him a card. The purpose is for the regular "checkup.” ALBANY CHAPTER No. 7 Like other chapters, we are also in terested in the early visit of the newly named executive secretary. We feel that his occasional calling upon us mem bers will not only aid in cementing closer friendship among us all, but also be an enlightening factor. But since, this month, we have not had this pleasure, we would like to men tion the distinguished callers at our meeting June 13 at the Albany hotel. Honoring us that night were Resident Engineer A. V. Benedict of Portland and George A. “Buck” Barnhart of the Eugene chapter. "Buck” reports that they have a temporary assignment up on the San- tiam highway and are enjoying the cool mountain atmosphere while gazing at the beautiful scenery through the tele scopic sights of a state owned transit. Two new employees, James Mespelt of Albany and James Setters of Cor vallis, were signed up as members. We also welcomed the transfer of Vergil Hoflich from the Newport Chapter as he has recently been assigned to the Alsea Section as section foreman. John Wells, who formerly held this position, was transferred to Waldport to fill a vacancy caused by the resignation of G. C. Read.
