January 1994 IN HONOR OF HUMPTY LOGAN: Nobody sees the tears of my angels that fall like rain upon water, sparkling like diamonds in the ' moonlight. Aware of the pain that had come and’ never left, deep w ith in my so u l w ith consistency, it pounds me down driving me from confusion into more confusion, turning and turning and turning, never finding escape, never finding a clue to the answer to why it must be this way. Comfort comes with the touching of friends, yet their light they share does not shine upon the shadow of loneliness that lives deep within my soul. Nobody sees the tears of my ^angels that fall like rain upon water, sparkling like diamonds in the moonlight. I ask you to never feel as you are not wanted or alone in this world. You are the co existence of our ancestors. Within you lies the answers of the mysteries of tomorrow. May you guard yourselves from the confusion that is entrenched in our peoples. May the spirits send you helpers in this path of life, guardians to watch over you that you may come to share the love you have in your hearts with your people. Never face an enemy with fear. Always remember you have the s p irit o f ch a lle n g in g the challenger where ever you may find yourself in this land or afar. The powers of corruption are always hovering over and around that which is good and true. Never fear evil, it is powerless against you, a gift of your grandmothers. Not to take away from any one there, I would like to say to BJ Wawrak, Steve Rife, and Ron Hervey that you will always be special to my family for not only doing such a great job on scene but for going beyond the call of duty and m aking a m o th e r's nightmare a lot easier. I’ll never forget how you stayed w ith us u n til P a c ific Communities Hospital had Todd ready to be transported to Emanuel even though it was several hours later. I would like to say I'm sorry for making your job harder at the scene of the accident. Again, Thank you all so much...BJ, even though I give you a hard time, I want you to know that I'm very proud of you....I think that Thy sister is pretty lucky. Shannon O'Malley, Jessica Parr, and Roxann Elkins, THANK YOU for coming to Portland and staying with me. To all my family members ( and there are too many to name) thank you for all your support and help during a very difficult time. Mom and Dad, you're the greatest! Halona Rae Turns Two Today January 17, 1993. Happy Birthday To Our Sweet Baby Girl! All our love, Mommy & Daddy XO-XO-XO 3 TO THE EDITOR: On December 10 1993 the CTSI hosted an awards banquet. Jhis was good, and I am sure it is appreciated. However, there was a mark that for myself was not appreciated: there were people that were drinking alcoholic beverages. Now to me this was contradictory to the policy of the Tribe in that tribal functions will be alcohol and drug free. People that attend the Pow wows, if they are caught with alcohol, it is confiscated, but at a social gathering of the Tribal Staff it is allowed. Now this sounds to me like hypocrisy in the first degree. Now, I am not a prude. I have no qualms about going to where alcohol is served or .where people are shooting up or whatever, also these places do not have a policy of no alcohol or drugs either. As d isproportionate as alcohol and drug use is among our own people, and the Indian Nation in general, it would seem to me th a t the T rib a l organization would strive to assure our people of a safe, drug-free environment at staff social gatherings. There were several young people at the party. These young people should have been recognized. After all, they are the ones that will be running our government much sooner then you think. What is our message we are sending to them? Now I have heard the remark that what people do on th e ir own tim e is th e ir b u s in e s s . I go to ja ils sometimes two or three times a week, sometimes to the prisons to visit Tribal members that drank on their own time. Alcohol or other drugs has no place in Tribal functions, and I for one believe that steps need to be taken that there will not be a repeat of such offenses. We have programs in p la c e , th e e m p lo y e e s assistance, 'm andatory drug testing, an A&D staff, all targeting helping our people that may have a potential problem with chemicals.
