SILETZ, OREGON, JUNE, 1987 - PAGE 5 -I I The Tribe's Management and Operations Manual defines immediate family as "husband, wife, mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister, or any other person who is a member of the employee's household". Re-read the above definition, substituting the term "employee" with that of "pageant judge". Do you believe such a definition would serve to avoid aconflict of interest on the part of a prospective judge? If not, what other family relationships would you include? SPONSORS NEEDED FOR CO DANCE W h at criteria should be the basis for judging pageant candidates (i.e. Knowledge of family & tribal history, knowledge and skill in Siletz dances, knowledge & presentation of regalia, poise & p e r sonality, etc.)? H ow would criteria differ for Little Miss and Miss Siletz? H ow would you assign This year the Pow Wow is asking individuals, families, and local businesses and organizations to help sponsor the competition dance awards. Sponsorships can be made in the name of the sponsors or in the name of an individual in honorarium or memorlum. Acknowledgments of the dance categories and their sponsors will be included in the pow-wow program. Whipman & Whipwoman: Through resolutions, the Tribal Council has designated Gilbert "Zeke" Towner and Pauline Ricks as the Tribe's whipman and whipwoman. Both served in these roles at the 1986 NESIKA ILLAHEE pow-wow. A t the February 21-22, 1987 meeting. Council requested that an ad hoc committee develop guidelines for the whipman and whipwoman. The meeting was a productive one and resulted in the establishment of a schedule.
