NUTRITION EDUCATION: For the month of June, nutritionist Jean Charles-Azure from Indian Health Ser vice, provided the following inform ation and recipes. SUMMER BEVERAGES: Squeeze, Slosh, Swish, Slurp, Sip, and Savor! AMBROSIA SHAKE OG NOG 4 sliced ripe bananas 1 well beaten egg % cup orange juice 1 tsp. sugar >/4 tsp. vanilla 1 c. skim or lowfat milk 4 c. reconstituted nonfat dry V4 tsp. vanilla milk, (use 1 c. ice cubes B eat egg an d s u g a r for 1 c. w ater) together. Beat in milk Blend in blender. 6 serv and vanilla. Sprinkle wtih ings. nutm eg. HONEY BUG 2 c. skim or lowfat milk 2 tsp. honey 1 tsp. vanilla Sprinkle of cinnamon H eat m ilk, honey and vanilla. Sprinkle w ith cinnam on before serving. SILKY MILKY 1 qt. butterm ilk 3 c. orange juice fa tsp. cinnamon 1/3 c. lemon juice 1 tbsp. honey (optional) Blend ingredients. FROSTY FRUIT FROTHS 2 peeled oranges 2 peeled bananas 2 c. crushed ice or 1 full tray of cubes 2 c. apple juice */2 tsp. cinnam on Blend in blender, (gradual ly a d d ic e c u b e s ) . S prinkle cinnam on on top. SNIPPY SIPPY 4 c. tom ato juice 4 long stem s of green onions Trim and wash stem s. Sip juice through stem . BUTTERMILK % c. nonfat dry milk 3% c. w arm w ater fa c. butterm ilk (m ay be hom em ade) Sprinkle nonfat dry milk over w arm w ater and s t ir . Add b u tte rm ilk , cover and let stand a t ro o m t e m p e r a t u r e 8 hours. Stir until smooth, cover and re frig e ra te . Makes about 1 quart. SLUMBER UNDER 2 c. lowfat milk 1 c. cider 3 sticks cinnam on H eat milk and cider. Stir with a cinnam on stick, STRAWBERRY SWALLOW l ’/2 c. dry nonfat milk 2 c. fresh or frozen berries 1 tsp. vanilla 1 c. w ater 1 tray of ice cubes Blend in blender (add ice gradually). 1% » 1 1 SPICE APPLE SIPPER 1 c. yogurt % c. ice cubes 1 c. stewed apples i/2 tsp. cinnamon Blend in blender. Sprinkle with nutm eg. PEANUT SMOOTHIE 2 c. nonfat milk 4 ice cubes y2 tsp. cinnamon 1/3 c. peanut butter 1 Tbsp. m olasses or honey Blend in blender. Or omit ice and serve heated. HOT MULLED CIDER 1 qt. cider 2 whole allspice 2 sticks cinnamon tsp. ground nutm eg Combine and sim m er for 30 m inutes. (P ut allspice and cloves in tea ball). GOLDEN COW 1 c. frozen orange juice (6 oz.) 1 c. nonfat dry milk 1 tsp. vanilla 1 c. w ater 2M> c. ice cubes Blend in blender (add ice cubes gradually). STRAWBERRY FRAPPE FOREVER KELLY MASON JEANNA HARRINGTON KARI MASON Kelly Michael Mason graduated from Newport High School on Ju n e 1,1985. Kelly is a recipient of the National Honor Roll. He participated in several ex tra curricular activities. He w as selected a t the W estern Oregon D ram a Conference Improvision Competition. He attended the Linn-Benton Skills F a ir for Algebra and Typing. He e arn ed v arsity letters in wrestling, football and baseball. Kelly has been accepted a t the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) in K lam ath Falls and will m ajo r in Computer Science. In 1982 and 1983 Kelly worked for the Siletz Tribes (Sum m er Youth Worker) and witnessed the construction on G o v e rn m e n t H ill. K ari Michelle Mason, a 6th g rad er a t Lincoln Junior High School, w as recently honored for being on the Honor Roll all y ear, m aintaining a G.P.A. of 3.70. She was also honored for h er participation in Student Council. K ari is also a m em ber of the percussion section in the band. Kelly and K ari Mason a re the son and daughter of Lin da and L arry Dooley of Newport and the late T erry Mason of Waldport. Jeann a H arrin g to n graduated from k in dergarten in Spring- field. Jeanna, age 5, is th e d a u g h te r of D w ig h t and K a th y H a rr in g to n .
