PAGE 2 ABSENTEE BALLOTING Tribal members wishing to vote absentee must apply for an absentee ballot. Applicants must sign the request for absentee ballot and return it to the Election Board. (This signature will be compared with outer envelope when returned.) Tribal voter’s printed name, and signature, must be the same as on the official Tribal rolls. Requests for absentee ballots must be received by the Election Board in sufficient time for absentee ballots to be mailed to the voter to complete them, and return them to the Election Board no later than 4:00p.m., February 4,1984. To All Tribal Members: The Election Board will be mailing out Absentee Ballots soon. Anyone wishing to vote by Absentee Ballot must apply for an Absentee Ballot. Nursing Recruitm ent Program is now seeking applicants for a six-week Summer Enrich ment Program to be held at Portland State University from June 16 to July 27, 1984. The Grand Ronde tribe lost their Board, 123 N.W. Second federal status and reservation lands 29 years ago. On November 11, Senator Mark Hatfield presented the bill to the Senate where it passed without going to committee. The president signed the bill into law on November 22 restoring the tribe to federal status. The law now makes the Grand Ronde Indian eligible for federal education, health care and programs. A General council meeting was called by the Grand Ronde Tribal Council on December 4.
