SPRINGFIELD JOHNSON O ’MALLEY NEWS By: Caroline Easter June 11, 1981 The Springfield/Eugene Johnson O ’Malley Program took a field trip to the Enchanted Forest, and had a picnic, Twenty-three students attended this field trip. June 27, 1981 Joe McKnight recently attended the Pi-Um-Sha Days Celebration in Warm Springs, Oregon. Joe took part in the parade and won second place for the most authentic dress, and also was chosen to lead the American Legion in the parade. Joe felt that it was. an Honor to be chosen for the Scout for this parade. Also some of the Siletz people put a float together for the parade, the Tribal Chairman, Arthur Bensell, Pauline Ricks, Carlene Easter, Angeline Easter, Caroline Easter, Edmond Ben, Judy Wahwassuck, and Paul Whitehead helped with the float, the Siletz float took third place in the Tradional theme. July 14, 1981 The Johnson O ’Malley Program in the Springfield/Eugene area is going to start Culture classes for the JOM students that want to learn how to make moccasins, the classes will be held on Tuesday nights at 7:00 p.m. here at the area office. SILETZ JOHNSON O ’MALLEY NEWS By: Sharon Butler FY 82 BUDGET: We have submitted the Fy 82 budget. There has been a few major changes that everyone should know about. Since President Reagan has been cutting our funds the Johnson O ’Malley will be the first to get the axe. The money that our JOM Program will have to operate on for the next comming year is approximently $17,000. With this amount of money the parent committee has decided to run a 9 month program. We will be in service during the school year. The Johnson O ’Malley program will provide services through tutoring, Pre-school, leadership, field trips, school visitations, parent committee, transportation, readers library, recreation and sports and cultural enhancement. If you have children in the Lincoln County school district and they are not on the JOM program please call me at 444-2536. To be a JOM student you have to be a quarter Indian from a recognized tribe ¿nd be in the age group of 3 through the twelvth grade^ I would like to service all students who meet the criteria. CAMPOUT: We will be taking students on a three day camping trip to Loon Lake located about 26 miles from Reedsport, Oregon. If you are interested in going, the dates will be July 27, 28 and coming home the day of the 29th. I could use some parent committee help on this trip. STUDENTS if you want to go please call me as^ soon as possible. There will be a limited number of students who can attend. Call Sharon Butler at 444-2536.
