COUNCIL PASSES HIGHER EDUCATION POLICY In December, the Siletz Tribal Council passed a Higher Education Policy to use in Operating the Siletz Higher Education Scholarship program. The goal of that program is to assist eligible Tribal members in obtaining a college or university degree. That policy is reprinted, in its entirety in this newsletter. Please, read it carefully. Some important points to remember are: (1. (2. Tribal scholarships are meant to supplement other sources of financial aid. Therefore applicants who can show that they have applied for other sources of financial assistance, through their college financial aid office will be given first consideration. Applications which do not document that other sources of financial aid have been applied for will be given secondary consideration^ Different colleges have different application deadlines for financial aid. Be sure to check with the financial aids office of the college you are attending or wish to attend sb that you apply for other sources of financial aid prior to the deadlines established by that school. To remain on a Tribal scholarship, a student must complete at least twelve hours and maintain at least a ”Ç” average each term. However, .scholarships normally will be granted for twelve terms (four academic years), This means that, to complete their degree in four academic years, a student must carry an average of 15 hours per term and, if a student has taken less than 15 hours during some terms, that student should plan on taking more than „15 hours per term in the future to complete their degree within four years.
