Part of the conference will focus carper workshop for High School students. More information will be provided in the newsletter. J N.W. INDIAN YOUTH CONFERENCE - The Fifth annual N.W. Indian Youth Conference will be held at Kah-nee-ta Lodge, Warm Springs, Oregon, May 1 - 3, 1980. Tentative agenda designates the objective as interaction among clubs. Contact Ron Pinkham, Madras Senior High School Counselor, 650 10th St., Madras, Or 97741, ph. no. 475-3888, for more information. cet . ebrations SIMNASHO (Warm Springs) POW WOW - everyone had a good time at the Simnasho Lincoln’s Birthday celebration February 8 and 9. Members of the Simnasho Longhouse provided coffee and food for all in attendance. The longhouse was packed full by 8 p.m. each day and the contest dancing was at its best. Many tribes, including the Siletz, were present. CHEMAWA celebrated its 100 YEAR BIRTHDAY March 1 and 2. Events included arts and crafts displays, Pow Wow and prize dancing, men and women's basketball tournament, and karate demonstrations. The event was well attended as many many Indian people and their families attended Chemawa. Ed Ben won a Pendleton blanket in his division of the Pow Wow. (what was that division, Ed?) Art Bensell, Pauline Ricks, Bill Towner, George Baker, L.D. John, Mary Alice Muncey, Ed Ben of the Siletz Tribal Council were present at the celebration. L.D. assisted with the basketball tourney. Bill Towner is sporting a fine drum with our Siletz Tribe lettered on one side of it. The Siletz JOM brought a bus load of our JCM kids + parents to the celebration on Saturday. M l in all, Siletz was well represented. UPCOMING EVENTS: Grande Ronde POW WOW Potluck - March 29, 5:30 p.m. - U of 0 100 Birthday Reunion Celebration - May Siletz student at the U of 0 is on the M l Indian Rodeo is also being held on - March 29; Native American Student Union, U of 0 Longhouse, 1606 Columbia St., Eugene; Chemawa's 23, 24, 25; U of O Pow Wow (Terry Russell, a Pow Wow Comnittee) - May 23, 24, 25; Klamath Falls the weekend of May 23, 24, 25. COLLEGE STUDENTS NEEDED SSA (Social Security Administration) SEEKING COLLEGE STUDENTS - The SSA is recruiting college juniors and seniors who are interested in a career with the Federal Government. Students must carry at least a 2.5 GPA, and upon graduation be willing to relocate any where in the Northwest.
