Vernonia Freedom—Page 7 Thursday October 29,1981 "The Blessed Hope" Feature motion picture scheduled “The Blessed Hope”, a feature motion picture, will be shown on Saturday, October 31 at Foursquare Church, 850 Madison Ave. In a day when Christians in many parts of the world are persecuted for their faith in God, western church goers remain unscathed. Participation in church activities, in fact, provides fulfillment and Church News... enjoyment for multitudes. But what if the lot of Christians elsewhere became the traumatic experience of present-day westerners? Gus Fairfield, a typical North American Christian, began wondering, after he visited a local bookstore in search of material for a father and son banquet. He happened upon the largely forgotten classic, Foxe’s Book of Martyrs. Noting his interest, a salesperson introduced him to some current volumes depicting the suffering of contemporary Christians in various parts of the world. “What if such conditions existed in my town?” Gus quietly asked himself. As he mused - and as the film visualizes - it was almost as if the events transpired in his own community. Wife, LU, and coUegian son, Dan, became part of his musing - and the film’s visualization - as the Fairfield family found themselves in frank and stark confrontation with the difference between true discipleship and the life of ease and convenience experienced by multitudes of western Christians. Also featured on the program, in addition to the film showing, will be skits, games and food. This is a free community event and is open to everyone. The party will last from 6 pm to 11 pm. The film will be shown at 10. Come and join us! Newcomers... Stephen Tyler Serafin Mr. and Mrs. David Serafin are proud to announce the arrival of their son Stephen Tyler.
