Reatha B. Hom was bom February 19,1917 at Gales Creek, the daughter of Joseph and Ethel Atkins McRoberts. She received her education in the Gales Creek School and then attended and graduated from the Forest Grove High School. She was married at Gales Creek on January 25, 1947 to Bill Horn and they started the Vernonia Insurance Exchange and later the Bill Hom Realty which they owned and operated from the time they started in 1946 until their retirement in 1979. Mrs. Hom had throughout the years been very active in community affairs in Vernonia. She was an active member of the Vernonia Christian Church; The American Legion Auxiliary since 1946 and the 40 & 8 and had served the Legion Auxiliary as a past district president. She was also a member of the Mt. Heart Rebekah Lodge No. 243 and had been a past Noble Grand as well as serving in several state appointed office positions. She had also been a member of the Nehalem Chapter, order of Eastern Star for many years and the Pythian Sisters Lodge and of the Vernonia Study Club. She had also been an honorary member of the Columbia County Cancer Society for 30 years and the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society. Surviving Eire her husband, Bill Hom at the family home in Vernonia; Thursday, New Beginnings Encounter Group 7 pm at the Fellowship Hal in the Church. Babysitting provided. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 28 at 1:30 pm at the Vernonia Christian Church with her pastor, the Rev. Russ Vinyard, officiating. Concluding rites and vault interment were at the Forest View Cemetery, Forest Grove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Fuiten Mortueiry of Vernonia.
