VHS Timberline—Page 2 SAWDUST Through-out the week of April 1-10, VHS International Club took orders for crystal jewelery which was purchased through the Crystal Adornments company. Money made through the sales will help finance the organization’s next trip, which will be to a French restaurant. Top three salesmen, Karen Pitt, Monica Hogan and Kim Kleinman, each received a crystal necklace for their outstanding efforts and contributions. Drama class attends Oregon Shakespearean Festival Seventeen members of the VHS drama class recently travelled to the Oregon Shakespearean Festival in Ashland, Oregon to see three professional plays, tour the theaters and learn more about how the Festival operates. Mrs. Kathy Sevig, VHS drama instructor, Mrs. Cathy Ceiloha, and Mrs. Carol Hogan chaparoned the group which included Shawn Stevens, Karen Parrow, Kathi Rinks, Angie Remsen, Ronda Wood, Lorre Reynolds, Lila Harrison, Polli Goodman, Kerry Grummert, Jay Cahill, Mark Tracy, Pat Dotter, Monica Hogan, Kelly Kyser, Dave Proehl, Guy Richardson and Debbie J ackson. While in Ashland for the three days, the students stayed in the homes of members of the Ashland drama department, going to school with them in the morning, then on to the theater. ‘The family I stayed with was really nice. We got along great and I enjoyed the trip immensely because of them,’ said Guy Richardson of his host family. T felt like I had known them for many years. They opened their home to total strangers and made us feel overwhelmingly welcome,’ said Shawn Stevens of his hosts. Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller, * Twelfth Night, by William Shakespeare, wadWild Oats, by John O’Keeffe were the three plays the group saw. Karen Parrow said of Death of a Salesman, ‘I was awed by the performance and the intensity of the actors’ and actresses’ emotions.’ ‘A spectacular performance which was well worth every hard-earned penny to see,’ was how Monica Hogan described Twelfth Night. ‘An excellent portrayal of the life of a roving actor,’ was the comment made by Jay Cahill on Wild Oats. In addition to the three plays, the students received a backstage tour including the Black Swan Theater, the Angus Bowmer Theater, the costume shop, the Elizabeathan Theater, and explanations of all technical work involved in a production. ‘The tour was very complete. It made me understand the hard work behind the^scenes,’ said Lila Harrison. Fund-raising events sponsored by the drama class entirely paid for the trip. KGW No-Stars basketball game, proceeds from the performance of Winnie- the-Pooh, and raffles and sales throughout the winter were just a few of the activities that paid for the trip. Cast and crew of the VHS presentation of Bye, Bye Birdie will attend the Civic Theater presentation of the same play on Saturday, May 2. Purpose of the Expedition is to familiarize the VHS cast members with the functioning of a musical production and to generate enthusiasm for their upcoming performances. Two WGS students, Steven Aacock and Donnie Coghill, and two Lincoln students, Shawn Meyer arid Angie Cavinee, participated. All four students will go to the state meet in Eugene on May 15 and 16.
