There will be a class held at the Jewell School in the Home Ec room and at that time it will be decided if more classes will be held. Talking of cooking - like Chinese food? A ten week course will be held at the school with the meal served after every class. Call Rosie Berdine at 755-2385 to sign up. The Jewell Senior Citizens met at the Jewell Grange Hall Friday February 27 with 19 attending. Several newcomers were welcomed from the Mist area and it is hoped they return and bring more friends at the next meeting to be held March 13 at 12 noon, fof the pot-luck. As usual many enjoyed the bingo game with one table of cards. Mrs. Phil Samuelson (Susan) has started her 4-H cooking class meeting February 26. Her group consists of the Vine-Maple and Elsie 4-H’ers and all in her class are second year 4-H members. This is Mrs. Samuelson’s first year as leader and she has seven members. Mrs. Brenda Riley is also leading a cooking class for the Jewell- Birkenfeld area. Mrs. Riley is in her sixth year as a 4-H leader. Jewell School officials and classified employees have a tentative three year contract package according to Superintendent Bernard Adamson. As all school board members were not at the meeting the agreement will be presented to the board at its April meeting. The rainy day movie, which is shown free to community college students and the public, will be “Bullwinkle and his Friends”. The Ridge Riders welcome new members The Vernonia Ridge Riders Saddle Club had their meeting Thursday night. The club is working on an event calender for every month of the year. Albert Lee and daughters Allyson and Judy were welcomed to the meeting. A trail ride is scheduled to start from Anderson Park on Sunday, March 15 at 10 am, bring a sack lunch. John Siedelman will lead the trail ride. In April there will be a trail ride. No date has been set. Anybody wanting to join the saddle club call John Siedelman at 420-7021. Membership is $3 a year and includes the whole family. . 4—H Rabbit Kids set meeting schedule by Yvonne Robinson The last 4—H meeting was held at 7 pm on February 12, and from now on the meetings will be held on the second Thursday of each month. Rabbit Kids will hold their meetings on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The fourth Thursday Rabbit Kids meetings will be held at Anna Worley’s house from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. Bring your rabbits. At our last meeting we talked about judging cows.. When we went roller skating the skating and transportation all cost $90. As spring nears, more golf nuts are showing up in the Jewell area. The Nogles, Samuelsons and Rusty Tiedeman travel almost daily to the Vernonia Course to chase that little round ball and several new prospects are planning on doing the same. Publishers move to town Over the weekend of February 20 21a new family moved into Vernonia. The Dobsons; Dennis, Ann and Cori, are finally full-time members of the community after more than six months of commuting daily from Portland.
