This can be illustrated by showing how easily generosity can deteriorate into prodigality, thrift into miserliness, prudence into timidity, or courage into foolhardiness. Even love, which is the most wonderful thing that there is in life, becomes, when corrupted, the low est Selfishness is one of the worst tins of the Christian world. Selfish- ness is a corruption of self-respect We should have a great regard for ourselves, of course; but as soon as a baby reaches the age of three or four years, and begins to talk about “I,” the corruption of a great and wonderful virtue commence«.
