This is a story about a Lion loose in the street, and about how our citizens reacted to same. Elmer Bankus, the water ty coon, and Bill Spencer, who is thp city w’ork superintendent, were out inspecting some pipes in the street near the Curry County Lumber yard, when they first heard the Lion roar. They inspected further and discovered that the beast was trapped in a pipe, and the pipe was blocked on both ends by the simple expediency of stuffing the pipe with rocks. Rather than risk letting the Lion out themselves, they noti fied the local branch of Scotland Yard, Police Chief Bud C ross. Chief C ross, armed with a chair, and a long piece of steel rod came charging to the rescue, ala Frank Buck. He poked one end of the rod down through the pipe , under the feet of the roaring King of the Beasts, and pushed the rock out. Lo and behold, out stalked the killer himself—only it was just a baby kitten. A hungry kitten. ************* ELKS VISIT ROSEBURG Three of the officers of the Brookings Elks Lodge, Exalted Ruler Bob Rettke, Fred Moore, and Larry Roemmich visited the D istrict Elk meeting at Rose burg Sunday ************ Mr and Mrs. Gordon Jones of Hillside Ave. spent the Labor Day weekend at the Kimble Kourt Lodge on the Rogue River. years the old acquired system?
